Robin Hood
12A Action/Drama
|
This latest take on the
enduring legend is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Russell Crowe as
Robin, Cate Blanchett as Maid Marion and Eileen Atkins as Eleanor of
Aquitaine. A
long way from Erroll Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, this is a violent
action film with amazing
CGI
which begins with Robin as an unemployed mercenary returning from the
Third Crusade who finds himself fending off a French invasion, and ends
pretty much where most other versions begin.
“It’s
thrilling, it’s solidly entertaining and it’s occasionally
breathtaking – your history teacher might not like it but this scores a
bullseye.” Daily Mirror

The
Ghost Writer
15 French
Thriller |
Directed
by Roman Polanski from the hit novel by Robert Harris. A ghost
writer hired to complete the memoirs of a former British Prime Minister
(any resemblance to Tony Blair is entirely uncoincidental!) uncovers
secrets that put his own life in jeopardy. With just 30 days to
complete the manuscript, The Ghost (Ewan McGregor) arrives in
New England
where Lang (Pierce Brosnan) is holed up in his beachfront home with his
wife (Olivia Williams) and his mistress/PA (Kim Cattrall). The body
of the Ghost’s predecessor is found washed up on the shore, and The
Ghost soon finds himself in a murky world of duplicity and political
malfeasance.
